Finding a successor to The Lutheran Educator

The Wisconsin Synod's journal for teachers, The Lutheran Educator, ended publication with its May 2009 issue. The editors of The Lutheran Educator are investigating the possibilities for and interest in some sort of alternative publication or presence online. We invite all who have some thoughts about this--particularly WELS called workers--to participate in a bit of brainstorming on this blog. The thoughts that you share here will be used by Martin Luther College faculty to determine whether we should be creating a space for onging dialogue about issues and ideas in education ... or whether you feel such needs are already being met via other venues. MLC thanks you for your input as the college seeks to carry out its vision of "providing educational leadership with a global outlook" for 2010 and beyond.

For your convenience, we have set up this blog so that you can post comments without signing in. Thus your comments would be anonymous (if you wish), but we certainly encourage you to include your name with your post if you are not signed in on Blogger with a Google account.

Do you want to talk? About what?

Since the Lutheran Educator has ceased publication, do you think it would be a good idea for Martin Luther College faculty to establish a website as an alternative to a print journal? It could be a place for teachers to explore key issues in Christian education together.
  • Would you find such a website useful? Or do you already have access to enough other resources, conferences and forums that are meeting your needs as a Lutheran educator?
  • If MLC did create a website for posting articles and having discussions about issues in Christian education, what are some issues you think should be addressed?
Your responses on this blog will help determine whether or not MLC pursues such a project.

Interested in educational research?

Martin Luther College now offers Masters of Science degrees in education. Graduate students in the masters program compose research papers on various educational topics. It has been suggested that MLC might post these papers for the sake of other educators, who might be interested in the research results. Would you have any interest in seeing graduate school papers posted online? Share your comments here.
